- In the past years we used Bocas 14,400 and recently wanted to make file
- transfers from unattended, switched-off PCs. We used Server Technologies
- Power On/Off with pcAnywhere for Windows 2.0.
-
- Based on USR advertisements in regard to connectivity and speed, we got a
- Sportster 33,6. The above setup requires modem recognition from cold-boot
- when activating the Power On/Off. But here a most unusual thing happened.
- The Sportster was not recognized, the pcAnywhere said: No connection.
- Similar lack of connection happened from Robotics supplied PC2LINK software.
-
- However, when, after the failed attempts the computer was warmbooted,
- everything worked fine. But this is not achievable from a remote site.
-
- Exchanging the Sportster with our old Bocas 14,400, or with the Boca
- MV.34 28,000 (using the same RS 232 cable) immediately solved the problem,
- i.e. the modem functioned immediately after cold boot.
-
- Additionally, according to USR technote #318, error correction has to be
- disabled by adding "&M0"; these are hardly any encouraging perspectives when
- transmitting critical data.
-
- Inasmuch as USR tech support was unable to solve the problem, is there
- anyone in the group who can provide some info?
-
- Thanks
